Ahead of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP’s national convention billed for coming Saturday, the 9th of December, 2017, the party has said that the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, who had defected back to the opposition PDP from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, party recently would not vote during the convention.
The party also said that Osun state is equally excluded and would not participate in the national convention while Anambra state was still being considered, following the disagreements among members in the state.
The party, however, raised the alarm, alleging it has uncovered plots by “overzealous elements” in APC who have planned to disrupt the convention on Saturday.
The National Publicity Secretary of the National Caretaker Committee of the party, Mr. Dayo Adeyeye, made the disclosure in a news briefing in Abuja on Wednesday.
According to Adeyeye, though the leader of APC, President Muhammadu Buhari, is not part of the plotters of the alleged planned disruption of PDP’s convention, he is calling on the president to investigate and ensure that the convention was not disrupted.
“We have credible information that some overzealous elements in the APC Government want to disrupt the PDP national convention.
“It is not from the very top; they know that if we have a hitch-free convention, it will mark the end of APC in power.
“We call on President Buhari to investigate and ensure that those who want to disrupt the convention refrain from doing so,” he said.
Adeyeye maintained that disrupting the convention is tantamount to disrupting the country’s democracy.
Adeyeye said that accreditation for the convention would be strictly monitored, and warned that persons not accredited would not be allowed within the vicinity of the Eagles Square.
According to him, the list of accredited delegates will be made available to all aspirants at least 48 hours before the convention.
He said this is to allay rumours that the list was altered to suit selected aspirants.
Adeyeye announced that the Chairman of the Convention Planning Committee, Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta, would meet with all chairmen of the party in the states on Friday.
He said that the meeting would hold at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja at 10 a.m. and that attendance was mandatory.
