Former Governor of Plateau State, Senator Joshua Dariye, and a former Taraba State Governor, Jolly Nyame, and two others have been released, Prime Business Africa reports.
The convicts were being held in the Nigerian Correctional Service Centre, Kuje Abuja which recently came under attack by suspected terrorists.
The federal government through the Council of State led by President Muhammadu Buhari had in April granted pardon to the convicts, an action that generated outcries across the country.
The Nigeria prison authority had insisted on not releasing the ex-governors and others, granted pardon until a correspondence from the Ministry of Justice authorising the release was issued to them.
Nyame was serving 12 years’ imprisonment for diverting N1.64 billion during his tenure as governor of Taraba, while Dariye was serving a 10-years jail term for N1.126 billion fraud.
