The United States, U.S. has given its formal backing to Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala to lead the World Trade Organization, removing the final obstacle to her bid to be the first woman and the first African to run the Geneva-based trade body.

Former Nigerian Finance Minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has emerged the only remaining contender for the World Trade Organisation, WTO, Director-General, DG, after her close and only rival, the South Korean Trade Minister, Yoo Myung-hee withdrew from the race. Yoo made her resignation on Friday.
