Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has shocked political watchers in Enugu state by appointing a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peter Okonkwo, as a commissioner.

Ugwuanyi, 53, submitted Okonkwo’s name to the Enugu state House of Assembly on Thursday, December 7, for screening and confirmation. Interestingly, Okonkwo is an elder brother of Kenneth, a veteran Nollywood actor and a fierce critic of Ugwuanyi’s administration.
The House of Assembly has since approved the appointment of Okonkwo as a commissioner. The commissioner-designate was a member of the PDP, before he moved to the Alliance for Democracy (AD) to contest for governorship and later joined the APC.
Speaking on his appointment, Okonkwo promised bring humility of service to the state adding that he came to learn and impact his own idea for the development of the state. He explained that if confirmed that he would maintain and uphold the existing relationship between the executive and the legislature.
