YENAGOA—Bayelsa State Government, yesterday said it plans to launch a crime control drone system to assist in the prevention of crime and criminality in the state.
Speaking through Commissioner for Science and Technology, Chief Blessing Ipigansi-Izagara, the government said the plan was developed by an indigenous manpower and technology system agency in line with the current administration’s zero tolerance for crime and criminality.
The commissioner spoke in Yenagoa during the inter-ministerial briefing to mark the sixth Anniversary of the Seriake Dickson-led administration.
He said the system would have a direct link to the Police on patrol duty at different locations with about four drones with the speed limit of 150 kilometres per hour deployed to every police station in the state.
According to him, since inception of the current administration, the ministry has collaborated with federal and foreign agencies in the areas of training and capacity building to address manpower needs of the state and developing the data base of unemployed graduates.
According to him, the era of non-completion/abandonment of projects by contractors was over in the state as the ministry had developed a video monitoring system to monitor the activities of contractors handling various projects in the state.
On her part, Commissioner for Tourism, Mrs. EbiereAjua-Musa, said the state government had awarded contract for the Ox Bow Water Park to be situated behind Silverbird Galleria and the contractor had assured that the project would be completed in 60 days.
According to Mrs. Ajua-Musa, to curb capital flight, the state government had approved an Amusement Park to be cited at the Peace Park opposite Government House, as well as conversion of the Castle Hotel which is 90 per cent completed, Golf Course, Polo Club, Ox Bow Lake Hotel which will be put to use this year.
