The Senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, for the Delta Central Senatorial District, Mr. Peters Omaruaye and his campaign entourage were at Arun-owun community in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State on Wednesday, 25th of January, 2023 where the good people of the community asked him to restore their Seaport in order to make it possible for businesses to thrive again in the community. They asked him to make this his number one priority when he is elected to represent the district at the Senate.
Speaking during the consultative visit, Mr. Peters Omaruaye informed the community that it became neccessary for him to visit in order to inform them of his intention to represent the Central Senatorial District at the Red Chambers.
“I have what it takes to represent the district at the National Assembly and I promise never to dissapoint you when elected, I have the political clout having been the Campaign Director General of a political party that has produced elected officials including a Senator. I also have the Educational qualification, experience, and exposure to represent the Senatorial District”.
Emphasizing the call by the people for the restoration of their Seaport, the spokesperson of the community narrated how they were deceived by PDP and APC over the Seaport which they vowed to make functional but failed after being elected to represent the Senatorial District at the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He emphaseized that the functioning of the Seaport is a very important need of the community at this very moment.
He said, after listening to Mr. Peters Omaruaye, and being a man who has touched the lives of citizens and contributed meaningfully to the growth of the society, the people of Arun-owun have no doubts in their minds that he will deliver as he has promised.
The spokesperson said the community was pleading with Omaruaye to make sure their Seaport and other needed facilities are put in place when he is elected, “you should not be like the PDP and APC People who promised to give us a Seaport but failed.” He said in 2015 and 2019, the present APC Governorship candidate, Senator Omo Agege, was in Sapele were he promised heaven and earth. Upon resumption as a Senator, they did not hear from him, nor was there any mention of the Seaport he promised on the floor of the Senate.
Indeed, in reviewing the tenure of the out going Senator Omo Agege, many of his promises remain unfulfilled. From rural electrification to a promise to provide federally funded ICT centers in all secondary schools. Political marginalization has always been at the center of Urhobo complaints, and Omo Agege was elected to close that gap. Unfortunately it doesn’t appear that he attempted to make much progress in that direction, especially given that he was the Deputy Senate President.
Concluding, the community spokesperson said, “we are asking you not to behave like the current occupant of the seat of this Senatorial District at the Senate, who is going to be your predecessor, when you are there as a Senator, because we have resolved to vote you and all APGA candidate come 2023, remember our Seaport is a priority for this communities”.
