Agip, JVPs banish darkness from 2 Bayelsa riverside communities

SAGBAMA – TWO riverside Isoko-speaking settlements, Osifo and Abuetor in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, came alive weekend, as the Nigerian Agip Oil Company Limited, operator of the NNPC/NAOC/ONDO Joint Venture, lit up the communities under its ultra-modern power scheme, known as “Communities with Access to Energy Initiative Projects.”

The communities on the bank of the River Niger, which over the years, had been in darkness, were powered by a 200kva generator.

Why we executed projects -NAOC GM

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, which the natives turned into a mini carnival, the General Manager, NAOC, Mr. Marco Rotondi, stated that over the years, the company and its Joint Venture Partners had been in the forefront of improving the living standards of the people of its host communities.

Rotondi, represented by the Stakeholders Management and Community Development Division Manager, Mr. Dennis Masi, explained that the 200kva generator and the ultra-modern generator house each  donated to the communities were in fulfillment of the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) entered between NAOC and the communities, as part of the Access to Energy Initiative of the Joint Venture partners, designed to ensure the implementation of socially beneficial and sustainable projects in its areas of operation.

He called on the people of the communities to reciprocate the company’s gesture by providing suitable working environment for its staff.

Also speaking, the Managing Director of Oando Oil Limited, Engr. Durotoye Olupade, represented by the Community Relations Manager, Chief Samuel Onyenwe, noted that it was the company’s belief that with the provision of the generators and the ultra-modern generator houses in the communities, the economic potentials of the communities and its environs will be galvanised.

Earlier, the President- General of Osifo Community, Mr. John Oghoro, thanked NAOC  and its JVPs for providing the generator and the generator house in the community.

Mr. Oghoro also commended the JVPs for other amenities, including cottage hospital, electrification, 1km road, six-classroom blocks provided for the people, which according to him, have impacted the community positively.

President-General of Abuetor community, Hon. Lovely Agwor also thanked the company for all the developmental projects built in the community such as six classroom primary and secondary school blocks, electricity and wiring of 500M low voltage electrification, as well as the just commissioned 200KVA generator and generator house to banish darkness from their community.
