NSUKKA—-There was heavy human and vehicular traffic at the university town of Nsukka, in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State on Saturday, as thousands of youths under the auspices of Nsukka Youths for Good Governance, NYfGG, marched through major streets in the metropolis to declare their collective support for the senatorial ambition of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of the state.
The youths who anchored their support on the infrastructural development, peace and security in the state under the administration of Governor Ugwuanyi, also added that he attracted federal institutions to Enugu to boost the employment opportunities for the youths.
Speaking shortly before the take-off of the rally at the Total Round About, Nsukka, the Director General of NYfGG, Comrade Clinton Ogbonna, said the rally had become necessary in order to assure Governor Ugwuanyi, and other candidates of People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Enugu North Senatorial District and the state at large of victory at the polls in 2023.
Comrade Ogbonna, equally said that he wants Governor Ugwuanyi to even emerge the next Senate President of Nigeria to enable him extend the level of peace being enjoyed in Enugu State to the nation at large.
He dismissed the viability of Labour Party in the state, adding that only fair-weather-politicians who want to share campaign funds are vying for elective positions in the party.
He, however, cautioned youths in the District not to allow themselves to be used as instrument for electoral violence.
“We are here today in solidarity to His Excellency, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State. You can see the mammoth crowd. This event is being powered by the Nsukka Youths for Good Governance. We came out today to show the love we have for the Governor.
“Our love for him is rooted on the fact that he brought numerous infrastructure development to Enugu North Senatorial District. He attracted and built Igbo Eno College of Medicine that will provide jobs for thousands of persons. He equally attracted the Federal College of Education at Ohodo from the Federal Government. He built the Opi-Nsukka dual carriage Road and we enjoy peace in Nsukka. He has done well for our people and that is why we are supporting him.
“One of his Four Point Agenda is rural development. He has done noble in that regard by opening up our rural communities through good road network. Nsukka is now enjoying urban facelift courtesy of the Governor. Before his emergence, Opi-Nsukka dual carriage Road was a death trap, but we can drive through it now with our eyes closed. It is under the administration of Governor Ugwuanyi that this District was able to produce four Commissioners, including other galaxy of political appointments,” Comrade Ogbonna explained.
