UGHELLI— POLICEMEN drafted from the Ughelli ‘A’ Division, yesterday, killed two members of a four-man robbery/kidnap gang terrorising Ughelli and its environs for the past couple of weeks.
Two other members of the gang were reported to have escaped with bullet wounds following a fierce gun battle with a patrol team at the scene of the incident.
Efforts to speak with Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, were fruitless at press time. But a senior Police officer from Ughelli Area Command confirmed the incident when contacted.
The Police source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that three assault rifles, English-made revolver pistol, a pump action rifle, a locally-made gun and the Toyota Camry car used the robbers were recovered from the hoodlums.
Giving details of how the incident occurred, the security source said: “We got information that a gang of robbers were operating at Aroh Road area of Ughelli.
“A patrol team was immediately drafted to the scene, only for the gunmen to open fire on them, which was countered by the patrol team, leading to a gun battle.
“At the end of the duel, two of the gunmen were killed, while two others fled into the bush with bullet wounds.
“We believe that with the gravity of wounds, their corpses will be eventually recovered in the bush.”
