The police in Benue State has confirmed the killing of 15 persons mainly women and children after an attack by suspected herdsmen on a community in Benue State.

Many houses were reported set ablaze in the Monday morning attack.

The incident occurred tyouths from Omutu who engaged in a fight with some herdsmen.

In the cause of the fight two herdsmen were missing and some cows.

A peace meeting was initiated by the Chairman of the LGA and the Head of the Fulani Community in the area, while the Police went in search of the two missing herdsmen, one of who was found dead.

While the meeting was ongoing, some herdsmen went on a rampage, resulting in matcheting 15 persons to death and setting houses ablaze.

However, four suspects have been arrested in connection with the killings.

This comes on a day after the Presidency announced that President Buhari would visit Benue, Yobe, Zamfara and Rivers states which have been affected by the herdsmen-farmers conflict.
